Our Heritage – Preserving the Legacy of Old Capital Bioscope’s Cinema Chairs
In 2009, the charming Encore Theatre welcomed its first guests in the heart of the city. From its inception, this intimate venue held a piece of history, as patrons brought along the original cinema chairs from the renowned Old Capital Bioscope on Church Plain. The gentle curves of the stage ensure that every guest finds a comfortable spot, igniting an electric atmosphere. Here, we blend nostalgic elements with modern amenities like state-of-the-art lighting and sound, ensuring each production is an immersive and captivating experience.
What makes the Encore Complex truly special is its unwavering commitment to accessibility. Born out of necessity after Mathys’ accident during construction, we transformed our venue to be 100% wheelchair friendly. Our focus remains on delivering top-tier entertainment, complete with impeccable sound and lighting. Guests are invited to step into our theater, unwind, and escape the rigors of daily life. With free parking and managed entrances, convenience is paramount.
Beyond entertainment, our theater serves as a versatile space for corporate training and events. Renowned institutions like SAQUA, ACFESA Forensics, and The University of Pretoria have utilized our fully equipped lecture halls—Strelitzia, Protea, and Kiepersol—for graduations and training sessions.
Throughout the year, the Encore Theater hosts a variety of events, from the national eisteddfod to drama and music schools. Herbalife regularly promotes their health products here, while Doxa Deo’s Bible School utilizes our lecture halls weekly. With a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious hall covering 220 square meters, we cater to every need, from snacks to sit-down meals.
